BONES

I was reading Casdok's current post in her blog about everyone is different. This is about body (or head) modifications. I understand we need body modifications for easing pain or any other benefits. What I don't understand is body modifications other than those reasons.

Like this situation within the Deaf Community about "cochlear implants". A cochlear implant is very different from a hearing aid. Hearing aids amplify sounds so they may be detected by damaged ears while cochlear implants bypass damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve. Cochlear implant requires a surgery that drills through the mastoid bone to the inner ear. That's understandable and logical. Any surgeries that will help a person walk, see or even use a hand. Modifications are important however, at what level of modifications needed to be done? Medically or personal preferences?

One of my favorite TV shows, BONES reminds me of a quote from Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan who is played by Emily Deschanel about modifiying facial bone structures. This is from the first seaon, which was the 10th episode, "The Woman at the Airport" where Dr. Temperance Brennan and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth travel to Los Angeles to determine the identity of a woman whose body parts were found near Los Angeles International Airport. She was trying to identify the victim's identity that was changed by previous extensive plastic surgeries.

It's barbaric! It's painful! It's wrong! This murder victim may never be identified because some glorified barber with a medical degree has the arrogance to think that he could do better than a millennium of evolution.

I would re-phrase it this way:
This murder victim may never be identified because some glorified barber with a medical degree has the arrogance to think that he could do better than my Creator, who is God.

Just sharing my thoughts.
