This Summer's Olympic

China's ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said the Tibet violence would not hurt the Olympics.

China is hoping that this summer's Olympics would boost its international image relating to the communist government's human rights record. Opponents (like Tibetans)of China government are not stupid and they are using the opportunity to show the world what China communist government is really like and they want to show the world that China is seen as being the enforcer as the Police were doing door-to-door searches and just going in and ripping apart and looking for insurgents including Canadian and American citizens' homes. Foreign journalists were prevented from taking photos and ordered to leave.

The Tibetan protests began March 10 on the anniversary of the failed 1959 uprising. Tibet had been effectively independent for decades before Chinese communist troops entered in 1950. Read more Tibetan sovereignty debate
